CW 'Beauty And The Beast' Canceled, To End After Season 4

Beauty & the Beast will come to an end after four seasons.

The show was created by Sherri Cooper-Landsman and Jennifer Levin, and has been on TV since 2012.

It may be a tale that's old as time, but Beauty and the Beast will soon be sharing its final chapter with fans. We've always been a fan, but at around season 2 it looked nearly like a lock that we'd be seeing the show canceled then.

The recently cancelled remake stars Kristin Kreuk as an NYPD office, investigating her mother's death. One of our stated goals for the network was to have year-round programming. We are developing other things at this point for next summer. Today, it was confirmed by the network that the show's fourth season airing next summer will be the last, and as they wrap production this fall, they will not be going back.

"Beauty and the Beast" has never been much of a ratings performer, averaging a 0.6 rating in 18-49 and 1.6 million total viewers in "live plus same-day" estimates for its premiere season in 2012-13. Season 3, which didn't start until June, only averaged 879,000 viewers, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

'Beauty and the Beast' received an early renewal for Season 4 this year, despite not performing particularly well in the ratings.
