Nepal captain, players arrested over match fixing

October 16, 2015- Repairing ties with India and easing restrictions on imports at border points will be high on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa's agenda when he embarks on a three-day visit of India on Saturday.

It is learnt that while External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will review the entire gamut of India-Nepal relationship with Thapa in the changed political and diplomatic scenario, she will also insist for an action plan that the new Nepalese Government has for the protesting Madhesis. Sources said they are hopeful things will be only get better between the two countries after Thapa's visit. In fact, during the last 24 hours, 733 commercial vehicles have managed to move through seven crossing points.

"By 12 noon, 2,500 trucks are still queued up, mainly at Raxaul, where the number is between 1,500-2,000, and Sanauli where number is approximately 750", he added.

In Nepal, Prime Minister K P Oli said that an unhindered "transit" was the inherent right of a landlocked country that has been endorsed by worldwide covenants and treaty, and "India should honour it by lifting the undeclared blockade".

The Himalayan nation has faced problems bringing in supplies of food and fuel as routes from India have been blocked by protesters opposing Nepal's new constitution.

"Today is the 21st day of border obstructions, and the 62nd day of unrest (in Nepal)", the ministry spokesman said, referring to the protest by people of Madhes region (plains in southern Nepal bordering India) against the new constitution, which they say does not give them adequate representation.

Meanwhile, India on Thursday chose to tighten security along the porous border to check movement of extremist elements and smuggling of counterfeit currency and narcotics.
