Israelis kill 3 alleged Palestinian attackers

The man drew a knife and tried to stab the officers, who shot him dead, the spokesman said.

Police commander Yoram Halevy said the gunman had entered the secured bus station and used a pistol to kill the soldier and grab his assault rifle, which he then used to shoot others. The group, which has often criticised the attitude of Israeli troops towards the foreign press, called on Palestinian media organisations to verify media credentials.

Three Palestinians were shot and killed by Israelis Saturday in separate stabbing incidents in Jerusalem and the West Bank in the latest in a month-long upsurge in violent confrontations.

Three of Saturday s attacks took place in the flashpoint West Bank city of Hebron, where a few 500 Jewish settlers live in a heavily-guarded enclave in the city centre surrounded by almost 200,000 Palestinians.

In the first, a Palestinian tried to stab an Israeli pedestrian, but according to the IDF, the armed civilian shot the assailant dead.

Over the past month, nine Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks, majority stabbings. Israel regards all of Jerusalem as its indivisible capital. The holy site, called the Noble Sanctuary by Muslims and the Temple Mount by Jews, is revered by both faiths and has been the scene of frequent clashes.

Netanyahu and Kerry are planning to meet in Berlin next week, according to United States and Israeli officials, though the exact details have yet to be confirmed.

Samri said "the policemen fired and neutralized" the suspect.

France's ambassador to Israel, Patrick Maisonnave, was meanwhile summoned to the foreign ministry for 0730 GMT Monday over the resolution, French and Israeli diplomatic sources said.

Israeli security forces have deployed massively in Jerusalem to try to halt the attacks and on Wednesday began setting up checkpoints in parts of east Jerusalem, including Jabel Mukaber. But Israel accuses him of incitement, saying he has not condemned attacks on Israelis and falsely accused them of killing a Palestinian boy who stabbed an Israeli boy.

Citing security concerns, Tel Aviv and the nearby cities of Rehovot and Hod Hasharon avoided using the word "Arab" in announcing on their websites and emails to residents that maintenance workers and cleaners - many of whom are Arabs - would not be allowed into schools.

Seven Israelis have been killed and dozens wounded in the recent violence, while 37 Palestinians have died and hundreds more been wounded in clashes.

Triggered by Israeli incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound last month, protests against Israel's occupation have increased in frequency across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.

Israel on Sunday closed the only civilian crossing from Gaza into Israel, except for humanitarian cases, while damage was being repaired.

Israel says it is keeping the status quo at the holy compound.

They told police they meant to repaint the shrine after the fire. This has left many Palestinians increasingly frustrated because all paths to independence appear blocked.Zerihoun warned Israel that the current crisis cannot be resolved by security measures alone. "Gun down" is a pejorative, intimating that the Palestinians were unarmed and the Israelis shot them in cold blood.
