Two Children, Two Adults Dead After SUV Plunges Into Arizona Lake

Pooley said the father appeared to have been driving when, just after midnight, the SUV drove into Tempe Town Lake, a reservoir in the middle of the city.

Lt. Michael Pooley said the only survivor of the crash, Nazyiah, was in extremely critical condition, but passed away on Sunday as well.

The dead include a 6-month-old girl, two boys, ages 2 and 3, and the driver, a 27-year-old man, believed to be the father of the children, officers said.

An early morning auto crash into a lake in Tempe, Arizona, on Sunday has reportedly a young family. Police said they are from Phoenix.

Detectives working to identify Mrs Baxter then realised a third child - three-year-old Reighn - was missing. Police divers went to the still submerged auto and located the boy's body around 10 a.m. He was strapped in a auto seat in the last row of the vehicle, Pooley said.

Pooley says someone in the group pulled out a gun and gunfire was exchanged.

While details of what led to the vehicle plunging into the lake were unclear Sunday afternoon, police said all five occupants of the vehicle drowned.

"We don't know what caused them to do this", Pooley said.

Police are investigating a shooting that erupted at a Tempe house that left two people shot, including a fleeing suspect. The speed of the vehicle at the time of the incident was also being determined, he said. "This is a very horrific thing...It touches all of us". "You can't help but feel heartbroken".

The family's identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin. "We don't know exactly what happened".
