South Korea navy fires shots to send back North ship

South Korea has a lottery system for its citizens hoping to meet their family across the border, where the reunion was held, at the resort of Mount Kumgang.

The North Korean Committee spokesperson also drew attention to the fact that the reunions of divided families were taking place around Mt. Keumkang.

A second round of highly-charged family reunions brought together relatives split for six decades by the Korean War on Saturday, with around 250 mostly elderly South Koreans crossing into the North.

Hundreds of South Koreans held tearful reunions with their family members in North Korea on Sunday amid tension sparked by the intrusion of a North Korean patrol boat over the demarcation line in the Yellow Sea, reports South Korea's Yonhap news agency.

North Korea has rejected the so-called Northern Limit Line, which was drawn up after the signing of the 1953 armistice, as the maritime border, insisting on a line farther to the south.

Other participants include Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun; Sung Kim, US special representative for North Korea policy; Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin; and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov.

North Korean Jong Kun Mok, left, weeps with his South Korean mother Lee Bok-soon after the Separated Family Reunion Meeting at the Diamond Mountain resort in North Korea, Monday, October 26, 2015.

"I am so happy, and happy", said Lee Geum-seok, 93, from the South, during lunch with her 74-year-old son after individual meetings in a hotel room.

Choi said Seoul and Tokyo should cooperate in trying to repatriate their nationals from North Korea, especially knowing now that Yokota was likely trained among South Korean abductees, and that the South Korean government is considering the matter positively.

South Korea's navy has fired several warning shots to drive away a North Korean patrol boat that had crossed the disputed maritime border between the two neighbors. He met his two North Korean daughters.

But given there are more than 65,000 South Koreans now on the waiting list for a reunion spot, those selected represent a very fortunate minority. North Korea selects participants based on perceived loyalty to the party, it is believed.

Many could not contain their tears when they saw their loved ones again after years without news of their relatives.

Another group attended reunions earlier this week.
