Central Intelligence Agency director says hack of his email epitomizes cyber threat

"We have obtained the contents of Central Intelligence Agency Chief John Brennan's email account and will be releasing it shortly", the organization in a tweet Wednesday.

Top American intelligence officials, who made a rare collective appearance at a conference co-sponsored by the CIA at George Washington University, said such a threat comes from both the state and the non-state actors. He criticized the media for covering it. "I certainly was concerned about what people might try to do with that information".

"Because of a few things that were put out, the implication of the reporting was that I was doing something wrong or inappropriate or in violation of my security responsibility, which was not certainly the case", he said.

"Cyber-front worries me at night", Brennan said. Brennan said he was annoyed that a few media accounts suggested impropriety on his part, but he did not cite any in particular outlets. "I think that was inappropriate by a few".

WikiLeaks last week started posting a handful of documents stolen from Brennan's personal email account by an apparent teenage hacker.

The teen, working with a group called "Crackas With Attitude", said he fooled Verizon into providing him with Brennan's personal data.

"I think it does epitomize ... what we have to deal with in this increasingly modern and interconnected world". Nothing in the account appears to be classified.

Doctors Without Borders' chief in Yemen says a small medical facility it runs in the northern Yemeni province of Saada has been completely destroyed by two airstrikes but that there were no casualties.

The information included email contact addresses, a few of which were out of date, his wife's pension identification number, and the Social Security numbers and personal information of USA intelligence officials.

"What it does is to underscore just how vulnerable people are to those who want to cause harm and the social engineering that goes on and the manipulation of the system allows individuals to carry our criminal activities against US citizens", Brennan said.

"It's a pretty serious proposition to have any of that information out there", said Marcus Christian, a former federal prosecutor and current partner with the law firm of Mayer Brown's cybersecurity and data privacy practice.
