Sensex provisionally closes 202 points down (Second Lead)

In Friday's trade, good buying was observed in banking and power sectors, while selling pressure was seen in capital goods and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors.

The BSE 30-share Sensex after resuming in positive zone soon slipped as participants indulged in squaring-up long positions.

The National Stock Exchange's index Nifty reclaimed the 8,300-mark by rising 40.85 points, or 0.49 per cent, to 8,336.30.

In Europe, London's FTSE 100 was down by 0.92 percent, France's CAC 40 was lower by 0.61 percent and Germany's DAX Index was down by 0.23 percent at the closing in the Indian markets.

On a weekly basis, the Sensex lost 813.98 points, or 3.05 per cent, and the NSE Nifty plunged 229.70 points, or 2.84 per cent - their worst weekly performance in two months. "Breakdown of commodity prices across the world, weak global cues and a weak rupee weighed on sentiment", said Gaurav Jain, Director, Hem Securities. "Also the Federal Reserve's meeting which may unfold the USA central bank's decision on its interest rate kept the markets under pressure", Alex Mathews, head - research, Geojit BNP Paribas Financial Services said.

"The market continues to be cautious while consolidating further amidst the expiry volatility and Fed meet".

The consumer durables index gained by 0.87 percent, while power index dropped by 1.21 percent and FMCG index fell by 1.07 percent.

The broader NSE index dipped 0.42 percent after gaining as much as 0.42 percent earlier. The BSE Small-Cap index was current off 0.02%.

Notable gainers were BHEL 2.79 per cent, Bajaj Auto 1.97 per cent, Vedanta 1.71 per cent, Maruti Suzuki 1.38 per cent, Hero MotoCorp 1.04 per cent and L&T 1.01 per cent.

Dr Reddy's Laboratories rallied 2.2 percent before unveiling its September quarter earnings.

Among Asian markets, Shanghai composite was quoting 0.91 per cent lower, Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 0.72 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei up by 0.60 per cent in early trade today.

The total turnover rose to Rs 2,773.00 crore from Rs 2,701.94 crore yesterday.
