Instagram quietly launches a Snapchat Live Stories-like feature

Users in the USA, who opened their Instagram app on October 31, were able to see a prompt on the top of their feed, 'Watch Halloween's Best Videos.' The feature was first spotted by the folks at .

This feature is similar to Snapchat's "Live Stories" which feature pictures and video uploaded by users in different locations, such as London, the NYC Marathon, and Dia de Los Muertos (the "Day of the Dead") in Mexico.

Just like Snapchat Stories the aim behind the curated streams is to bring popular content on Instagram shared with the public that's related to a recent event in one place where others can easily discover and scroll through it.

Once each video clip is over, the next one automatically plays, but you can also swipe up to scroll through and then tap on the screen to start the roll again.

Instagram has looked over its neighbours' fences and decided that it wants to keep up with the Jones' with the addition of promoted content curated for a specific event, starting last weekend with Halloween. Wired said that you can submit your post by using the hashtag #IGHalloween and the company will evaluate it.

"The Best of Halloween" was the first curated video channel on Instagram. There's a little bit of everything here: dogs dressed as Stormtroopers, video-editing assisted Halloween magic tricks, creepy astronauts and even Miley Cyrus singing "Ghostbusters".

has already taken a whack at packaging social media content around a single event with its Moments feature.

Two years ago, Instagram to the world, allowing users to assemble 15-second clips that rivaled Vine and other competitors that arrived on the scene later on.

The concept of curated video channels is by no means new.
