CBS' 'Supergirl' Falls Off in Week Two; 'Voice,' 'Blindspot' Put NBC

In fact, it’s enough of a drop that Supergirl ended up in the #2 slot on Monday night, according to Variety. LA closed the night with 8.3 million total viewers and a 1.2 demo rating, ticking down from its most recent outing - which had managed to notch a set of season highs. This return is probably within the realm of what was anticipated ... yet more than CBS would have liked.

Compared to the 8 o'clock hour on the opening Monday of 2014, "Supergirl" was up 16% in the demo (from 1.9) and 20% in total viewers (from 7.4 million).

Without "The Big Bang Theory" as a lead-in - and with significantly less hype for Episode 2 - "Supergirl" sunk 31 percent in the key 18-49 demographic versus last week's fast national rating, and 33 percent in rounded total viewers.

Now a self-starter at 8 p.m., "Supergirl" still lifted CBS' time slot versus a year ago. In its second week, "Blindspot" limited its 18-49 decline to 16% (2.6 rating). "The Voice" at 8 scored a 3.2/9 and 11.9 million viewers. While the CBS series had almost a million more viewers, both shows delivered 2.2 ratings in the demo, ensuring that Greg Berlanti continues to be the king of television this TV season (as he executive produces both Supergirl and Blindspot, which were tied for the most-watched series debuts of the fall).

ESPN was expected to win last night with "Monday Night Football", as its matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers averaged an 8.8 overnight household rating, down slightly from the 9.0 for last week's Baltimore-Arizona contest. Secondly, while the first Supergirl was watched by a lot of curious viewers, sentiment related to just how exciting and watchable the female superhero series is remains split.

The game was also shown on ABC affiliates in Charlotte and Indianapolis, so the early numbers for ABC are likely inflated. Leading out, The Minority Report (1.8 mil/0.6) slipped in total viewers while holding steady in the demo. And on the CW, insane Ex Girlfriend (0.3 adults) and Jane the Virgin (0.4 adults) were steady as well. Special "Countdown to CMA Awards" at 10 received a 1.0/3 and 5.5 million viewers.
