Google rolls out Android Security Update for Nexus Smartphones

Google has released details for "Android Security Bulletin Monthly Release" for November, fixing security vulnerabilities in Android.

The security update will be for devices with builds LMY48X or later, or a device running android Marshmallow. If you aren't familiar with how to flash a factory image, you're better off waiting for the over-the-air update to hit your device specifically as you won't have to do anything but pull down the software download from an incoming notification. It's a major update for Nexus 5 and is among the lucky ones to get the update.

"The most severe of these issues is a critical security vulnerability that could enable remote code execution on an affected device through multiple methods such as email, web browsing, and MMS when processing media files", Google says in an .

Along with this the Nexus Player would be getting the OTA security updates offered by the build MRA58N whereas the Nexus 6 would be receiving the MRA58K build updates. This is because the carriers will need to firstly test the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update before they release it to the public. Those are both related to the remote code execution, and are labeled as "Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities in Media server" and "Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities in labials". Android was built from day 1 with security in mind.

These are just the latest in a string of critical vulnerabilities found and patched in Android's media playback components since July, when a vulnerability in a library called Stage fright led to a major coordinated patching effort from Android device manufacturers and prompted Google, Samsung and LG to introduce monthly security updates.
