Indrani agrees to give voice samples

Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea, the key accused in the 2012 murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, gave her consent on Tuesday to the CBI to obtain her voice samples.

However, when Indrani asked for more details, the CBI said they could not divulge anything more.

Magistrate RV Adone had allowed CBI’s application and directed that the jail manual be followed while conducting the voice sampling test. "This is to match with what?"

In its plea filed before the CBI court, the agency had asked for Mukerjea's voice recordings in order to match them with a telephonic conversation.

When special public prosecutor Kavita Patil arrived, she repeated the questions. On this, the magistrate asked her to wait for CBI counsel to arrive.

After this, Indrani gave her consent in writing for conduct of voice sample test on her. Ms Patil said that her voice sample was required to match with a few other voices.

Indrani is in judicial custody with co-accused Sanjeev Khanna and Shyamvar Rai until Saturday. Last month, the Maharashtra government made a decision to transfer the murder probe to the CBI after days of uncertainty on the supervisory role of former Mumbai police chief Rakesh Maria, who was shunted in the midst of the inquiry that he had helmed proactively.

On October 2, Indrani was taken to J J Hospital from Byculla womens' prison in an unconscious state, raising speculation that she had overdosed on anti-depressant drugs.
