'The Voice' Season 9

It's in America's hands now. Then NBC gave us a Road to the Live Shows special on Tuesday night and let us get a little more details on the Voice Top 20.

The last artist of the night is Team Adam's Jordan Smith who is doing Beyonce's Halo.

It seems unfair and heavily subjective to pick just one, but lo and behold, two lucky singers jumped straight from elimination to the live shows. The first performance was delivered by Blaine Mitchell from Team Adam. Flawless! The crowd and judges are all on their feet.

Blaine directed the final notes of the number straight to his wife, who was seated in the audience.

Team Adam's Keith Semple is next and the Irish rocker has chosen Mr Big's To Be With You. Gwen said she loves how free he is with his body and that song was ideal for him.

Next is Team Gwen's Korin Bukowski's Sarah McLachlan's Adia. He sings this song very well and he is a rocker, but it sounded like the original. It was a great song choice for the family man - "A ballad for the ages", as he described it - and Keith totally killed it with just himself and his guitar at center stage.

There were no ringing endorsements from the coaches for Keith, but he clearly has a natural talent. Blake said this wasn't the over-top performance we are used to seeing, but he is consistent. Before she took the stage, her coach opted to bring in her personal stylist team to give her a stage-ready look. He came out and tackled the daunting task, but the coaches weren't loving it. Both Adam and Blake noted that he wasn't quite performing at his top level that they'd seen so far. Old grudges never die. Yep, doesn't that make it just that much harder for a female coach to win, when her artists aren't given the "featured" treatment as much? Next up was Korin Bujowski by Team Gwen.

We saw a different side of her that contrasted with the quirky personality she had shown throughout the opening rounds. "He's got that powerful, haunting voice", Levine said, remarking that it was a great song choice for Mitchell. In Season 7, the show allowed viewers to bring back an eliminated artist into the finals via Twitter, and in Season 2, the coaches were made to eliminate one of their artists in an "instant elimination". You received such education in a short period of time.

The fun begins soon, so follow along with our live recap below and watch the Voice Playoffs on The Voice Season 9 begin! Blake says she connected with the song and it was a great job.

Braiden Sunshine, the youngest in the competition and also from Team Gwen, completely owned his rendition of Bread's "Everything I Own".

The coaches heaped praise upon Jeffery. He performed "To Be Me With You" by Mr. Big. Gwen says she feels protective of him and says his voice is tender and beautiful and loved that he got wild at the end and says he looks so cute. "I'm just calling it like I see it", Blake gushed, totally showing support for his girlfriend.

Gwen fawned over him with her usual motherliness, saying that Braiden looked "so, so cute tonight". Pharrell called it the best performance of the night.

The Team Adam member performed Linda Ronstadt's "You're No Good", honing her ability to span several genres and still maintain a country flair.

Amy Vachal's voice was perfectly suited for the classic tune, and the way she moved through the song was effortless. Pharrell says that was moving and her voice fills the room.

COACHES' THOUGHTS - Blake told her to please do a Christmas album someday and she was on-point tonight. Team Gwen's Viktor Kiraly is up next.

This is Gwen's comeback artist on The Voice Season 9. "Team Gwen, overall, is whipping the crap out of Team Adam tonight".

Looks like Adam's giving this young singer a second - no wait, is it third? - chance.

Chance Pena was a one-chair turn who has hung on by a thread.

All of that is in the past, because here he was for the live shows, taking on the soulful "Barton Hollow". He says Chance has been through so much whether he's on the show or not (that sounds dire not encouraging).

Who else could close out the first live shows but the obvious front-runner, Jordan Smith.

There were surely more than a few tears shed in the audience Monday night.
