Facebook enables 360-degree video for iOS and Gear VR

In more good news, there'll be plenty more to watch for everyone.

The development is a small step toward what Facebook likely has in store for Oculus Rift, the the VR headset that is anticipated to become widely available in early 2016.

Encouraging the creation of more 360-degree videos, Facebook has also launched a microsite dedicated to providing relevant resources and information, including upload guidelines, common questions and a set of best practices.

These videos can be watched by tap-and-dragging around the screen, or for a true virtual reality experience, headsets like Google Cardboard and starting today, the Samsung Gear VR. It also says it's partnering with camera manufacturers including Theta, Giroptic, and IC Real Tech to create in-app "publish to Facebook" options for their 360-degree kit. Meanwhile, attracting organic VR videos will provide cover so it can slip VmaRketing into the feed. Publishers and their sponsors will want to insert their ads in the videos of course and Facebook will definitely get a cut of the revenue. That means that companies like AT&T, Walt Disney, and will soon be placing 360-degree video ads directly into your News Feed. World-leading VR producers Chris Milk and Aaron Koplin of Vrse pitched in to show creators what's the best way to make immersive video. The video release coincides with Facebook's on the same day that 360 video support is now rolling out to mobile devices, meaning it's no longer just limited to desktop. This will compel more users to interact with the ads resulting in more engaging content. That's made it much easier to slip in high-priced video ads that let Facebook absorb the ad spend sloughing off of television.

It's very evident that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) believes virtual reality is big and it's the future by making it easier for users to upload 360 content they have on their consumer cameras.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) first introduced 360 video as a way to keep people on Facebook pages and make them stay around longer.
