Lionel Messi steps up training ahead of El Clasico

"It's really easy to win titles when you have team-mates like Messi".

Though it is a fortnight away, there is no doubt that the "Clasico" between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona on November 21 will occupy an increasing number of headlines as the tie edges closer.

However, Argentina's doctor has told Cadena SER Catalonia show "Que t'hi jugues!" that Messi is unlikely to be sufficiently fit to take part.

He said: "The risk of aggravating the injury if Messi plays the El Clasico is high".

"The coach [Luis Enrique] can not rely on a newly recovered player".

'I think that if Barcelona or Real Madrid goes to the Premier League then the first year of playing there, there is no chance of winning it, ' he says.

Just last week the Catalans feared the Argentine would be unfit to return from a left knee ligament injury that's kept him sidelined since September 26, but according to reports Messi participated in training sessions on Monday and may be nearing a return to the pitch.

Bizarrely, a Real supporter was pictured holding up a replica shirt with "Messi 10" on the back at this weekend's Sevilla game.

Pique feels Barca are going into the game at the ideal time of the season, with the club having recorded four straight league wins even as Lionel Messi sits out with a knee injury.

Barca sporting director Robert Fernandez underlined that stance in an interview with RAC1 show "Tu Diras". "In no moment has the club thought about a date".
