Ukraine 2-0 Slovenia: Andriy Yarmolenko and Yevhen Seleznyov give hosts first

Earlier Ukraine took a comfortable 2-0 lead over Slovenia in Lviv as Andrei Yarmolenko and Yevhen Seleznyov scored in either half of a bad tempered clash at the packed 65,000-seat Lviv Arena.

The 36-year-old striker has netted six goals in eight appearances for his country during this qualification campaign and William Hill also offer 6/1 (7.0) that the front man - who plays his club football in Japan - scores at any time in a win for the hosts.

The second leg of the Euro 2016 playoff between Slovenia and the Ukraine should be another tense affair.

Slovenia, bidding to repeat their Euro 2000 play-off victory over Ukraine, never looked like getting back into the game after the break.

The tie is finely poised and Denmark could progress with a 1-0 win so the match is set up to be one that is played out like a chess game with both teams set to line up with a tactical approach that will prioritise not conceding. Although the Ukranians have that 2 goal advantage, nothing is over until it's over and Slovenia will hope they can produce something better than last week.

Slovenia were lacklustre throughout and could consider them fortunate that they are only trailing by two goals at half-time in the tie.

Martin O'Neill's Republic of Ireland will be bidding to carry on from where they left off in their 1-1 first leg draw away to Bosnia in Dublin on Monday as Hungary edged closer to their first worldwide tournament in 30 years when they defeated Norway 1-0 on Friday.

Ukraine meanwhile will be buoyed ahead of Tuesday's match, having consummately outclassed Slovenia on Saturday.

The visitors are without injured midfielder Ruslan Rotan but will be bolstered by the return of defensive midfielder Taras Stepanenko and full back Olexandr Kucher, who missed the game in Lviv through suspension.

Ruslan Rotan, however, is still out with injury and won't be available for selection. Slovenia have struggled offensively and have only scored more than one goal twice in the qualifiers at home.
