India bowl out South Africa for 214

An upbeat India will take on a depleted South Africa when the second Test of the ongoing Gandhi-Mandela series gets rolling at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Saturday.

Asserting the fact that AB de Villiers' 100th Test will not take the focus away from the second Test, South Africa captain Hashim Amla today said the star batsman will only add to the team's effort of trying to level the four-match series. It puts into perspective when we realise there have been just two 50-plus stands for the first wicket in the last 10 Tests. It was a sight to behold. India will now be battling against time to force a result in this game while South Africa have a slight window of opportunity to stay in the contest. The ball settled in his gloves, India went up for the appeal and Richard Kettleborough went to the third umpire.

De Villiers, who made his Test debut against England in December 2004, averages 51.92, with 21 hundreds to his name. It was a huge moment. Imran Tahir dropped a sitter off Vijay when the batsman was on 21.

India's Murali Vijay, left, and Shikhar Dhawan smile as they leave the ground at the end of the first day.

De Villiers, 31, said he was more interested in helping South Africa level the series with India, having lost the first match, than celebrating his own achievements.

With Aaron working up good pace, it was a few anxious time for the South Africans as 50 came up in the 17th over. Skipper Virat Kohli Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja are expected to form the middle order.

India's fastest bowler Aaron was also hit for back to back boundaries.

The 31-year-old is a crowd favourite in Bangalore, where he has played a starring role with the Royal Challengers in the Indian Premier League, and raced to a half-century from 59 balls.

"Jadeja is one of our "banker" (bankable) bowlers".

The city had experienced a week-long rain spell due to systems developing on the Bay of Bengal for the last one week, before toss was taken during the second test on November 14.

Opener Dean Elgar, who plodded to 38 by lunch, was dismissed off the second ball after resumption when he dragged an attempted sweep off Jadeja onto his stumps. JP Duminy struggled for 15 in a 42-run partnership before edging Ashwin to slip when playing back: had he pressed forward he would have struggled to get to the pitch anyway because this turned from an in-between length.
