Boy, 15, dies of Ebola in Liberia

Government and some educators are still skeptical about allowing pregnant and lactating school girls to join their fellow students in the normal school system in Sierra Leone, a problem it's still grappling with.

A teenager has died in Liberia in the first such death since the country was officially declared free of the virus in September, an official said Tuesday.

Earlier this week, Bruce Aylward, MD, MPH, the WHO's assistant director-general in charge of Ebola outbreak response, said it was unlikely that the boy's illness was part of a missed transmission chain, given the length of time that has passed since Liberia's last Ebola detection.

"Canadians responded generously during the Ebola outbreak by donating funds and some courageously traveled to the affected region to work with non-governmental organizations on the ground". Liberia also had been declared free of Ebola on May 9, but four cases subsequently were reported.

In the study, 93 men over the age of 18 from Freetown, Sierra Leone, provided semen samples that were tested to detect the presence of Ebola virus genetic material. You can live in the same house as a case and provided you are not in close contact with bodily fluids, you're not at that great a risk. Officials say they don't yet know the source of infection.

"My organization will continue to support Grafton ebola orphans because we noticed that most of the caregivers are poor and have their own families to look after, therefore it is an added baggage to your responsibilities and I salute your courage", he maintained.

Liberia has suffered the highest death toll in the worst known Ebola outbreak in history, losing more than 4,800 people in an epidemic which has killed 11,300 in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since it began in December 2013. Until the death of the one patient, there were three confirmed cases with more than 150 being monitored for possible contacts with the Ebola positive patients. The country's health officials recently uncovered several patients who have the Ebola virus.

"The healthcare workers-nurses, nurse-aids and hygienists-had had contact with the 15-year-old boy who is the index case of this fourth wave of Ebola in the country", he said.

David Nabarro, the United Nations special envoy on Ebola, stated that many of these recommendations reflect concerns that he and many people share, according to the Wall Street Journal.
