Microsoft has reportedly fired 60 engineers working on HoloLens

There's been a flurry of news recently surrounding the headset with a report that 60 engineers in Israel have been fired, and Kudo Tsunoda who has a long history with Microsoft's Xbox brand has now headed over to the HoloLens division.

The layoffs come as Microsoft shifts to another, undisclosed technology for its unreleased headset, according to the Hebrew-language site Ynet, which first reported the layoffs.

Right now, details about the final product are scarce, but the two companies have spent time working together over the past year on bringing 3D models from a screen to the real world by displaying them to users wearing the HoloLens. Meanwhile, Microsoft has been working hard to develop the HoloLens in the US.

Microsoft Israel has released a statement to Ynet, claiming that they made recent decisions that affect numerous positions in the company. the Israel-based side of Microsoft has said they are boosting investments in certain areas while other areas will see investments reduced - with the Israel-based HoloLens team being one of them. According Microsoft Israel, they are increasing investments in certain areas, while investments in other areas are reduced. Though HoloLens doesn't arrive in any form until next year, one Microsoft employee has a HoloLens at home and he's showcasing its capability as a personal video recorder in some crazy-looking home movies.
