Flight Delays, Cancellations Left AirAsia Passengers Fuming

He said there are no unions in AirAsia, so it could not have been a strike.

The Indonesian government said it has taken steps to act on the various recommendations made by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) after the crash of AirAsia flight QZ8501.

The report said inadequate maintenance and poor pilot training by the airline were among the reasons for the crash of the Airbus jet into the Java Sea.

But the former head of France's aviation authority, the BEA, which governs France-based Airbus, said AirAsia had not followed the agency's rules on training.

Reuters, quoting Indonesian investigators, reported that problems with a glitch-prone rudder component and the way the pilots tried to respond were major factors in the crash of the Indonesian AirAsia plane. Utomo went on to discuss that messages from the cockpit voice recorder revealed that there was some confusion between the co-pilot and the captain during the incident.

Cruising involves such high speeds, CNN's Quest said, that pilots responding without complete precision can often be disastrous. Some passengers were told that their flights were moved to other flights but were later cancelled. It may have been climbing at a rate twice as fast as it could and should, one analyst told CNN.

The plane went from cruising at 32,000 feet, ascending steeply to 37,400 feet in about 30 seconds - something commercial planes are not created to do. "With the 23 faults, there should have been a strong warning about the plane issued by the Transportation Ministry". Four minutes later, the plane dropped off the radar. That crash killed 162 people who were on board. "We will not leave any stone unturned to make sure the industry learns from this tragic incident".

Speaking as the report was released, investigator Nurcahyo Utomo said AirAsia pilots were not properly trained on handling Airbus aircraft when they were severely destabilised as it was not recommended by the manufacturer. There have been at least three other deadly accidents in Indonesia this year.

This caused havoc to flight scheduling left hundreds of passengers fuming as many were forced to endure multiple lengthy delays and cancellations.
