City Releases Burger King Footage-With 80 Minutes Missing-From Laquan Shooting

Dash-cam video released last week apparently shows Van Dyke shooting McDonald 16 times. The teen "continued to advance" towards him, contradicting what the video shows: McDonald walking away from police vehicles, crossing at least one lane of Pulaski. And that "in defense of his life", Van Dyke "backpedaled and fired his handgun at McDonald, to stop the attack". Emanuel said he did now know how the city planned to make the video public.

Hundreds of pages of documents, released late last night, accused McDonald of approaching several cops, including officer Jason Van Dyke, who is now charged over his death, with a knife.

Two Cook County commissioners have joined the call for Alvarez's Resignation, something Alvarez calls political.

After McDonald was killed, investigators with the Independent Police Review Authority visited the Burger King to look at their videos, and immediately asked about the gap in the footage.

"If the criminal investigation concludes that any officer participated in any wrongdoing, we will take swift action", police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.

Authorities said Johnson pointed a gun at police before an officer fatally shot him.

The release of the footage, which doesn't have sound, triggered protests and calls for public officials to resign, including Emanuel.

The family of 25-year-old Ronald Johnson has been pressing Chicago officials to release squad vehicle video of the October 12, 2014, shooting.

I wrote a column posted Friday saying that Emanuel has to go to restore trust in a city because many people believe that the video was held as part of a cover up.

With aftershocks from the release of dashcam video showing McDonald's shooting still rumbling through Chicago, a dashcam video of yet another fatal police shooting is about to be released.

- Fairfax, Virginia: Records in the March 2013 police shooting death of John Geer - including the officer's name- were released 17 months later in response to a judge's order in a civil lawsuit.

There was no indication from city officials specifically when the video would be made public. The statements led police supervisors to rule McDonald's death a justifiable homicide. He also said the city could not withhold the video because state and federal agencies were investigating an incident — not the city police department itself. He released the video 10 days after the shooting when he announced he was indicting Officer Ray Tensing, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and voluntary manslaughter.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, Cook County Commissioners Jesus "Chuy" Garcia and Richard Boykin and others demanded a sweeping investigation that would include the mayor's office as well as that of Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez, in the wake of the Laquan McDonald shooting.
