Russian Federation unleashes cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea at targets across Syria

The footage comes as Russia joins France in stepping up air strikes on ISIS targets in Syria following the terrorist attacks on Paris and on the Russian plane over the Sinai which claimed hundreds of lives.

AT least 36 people were killed on Friday in air strikes by Russian and Syrian jets on Islamic State-controlled Deir Ezzor province, a monitor said, describing them as the heaviest in the region since the start of the war.

President Vladimir Putin said the attack had deprived IS of $1.5 million in daily income from oil sales.

The coalition has been bombing Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) targets in Iraq and Syria for more than a year separately from the Russian campaign.

Sulaimaniyah airport director Tahir Abdullah said the decision was taken "because of the intensification of Russian missile attacks on Daesh strongholds in Syria".

Footage has been released of Russia unleashing a storm of cruise missiles against Islamic State targets, as the Russian military intensifies its bombardment of Syria.

Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry spoke earlier by phone to discuss the need for joint efforts to combat ISIS In Syria.

US officials said last month four missiles launched from Russian warships in the Caspian had crashed in Iran, though Moscow insisted they reached their targets in Syria.

The statement said the suspension of flights to the cities of Irbil and Sulaimaniyah is to "protect travelers" as cruise missiles and bombers cross northern Iraq from the Caspian Sea to Syria.

The and pictures come after photos emerged of U.S. Hellfire bombs being prepared for the same use, with the words "From Paris, with love" scrawled on them. If he backs up his word with actions, Putin's pledge could prove to be a turning point in the military campaign against ISIS in Syria.

Rami Abdurrahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human rights, said prices of fuel shot up in some ISIS-ruled areas by around 80 percent, due to truck drivers refusing to drive to Islamic State oil facilities, fearing their vehicles will be hit.
