Adele resists Coldplay album cost

On Wednesday Coldplay's Late Late Show Appearance Goes Online was a top story. Back in 2011, the band's Mylo Xyloto notched up 208,000 sales in its first week.

But sadly for the British rockers, the record-breaking, glass ceiling-smashing Adele has kept them off the top spot with her album 25 remaining at number one for the third straight week. Doused in colourful lights and backed by a kaleidoscopic set, the band bounced their way through their latest single "Adventure of a Lifetime", then followed it up a performance of the album's title track.

And it's the first song ever to sell one million downloads in seven days after shifting 1.1 million downloads. Elvis Presley album "If I Can Dream" also reached the six-figure mark this week, selling 105,000 copies at number three. Bieber replaced himself at the top of the singles charts last week, and holds the same positions this week, with Adele's "Hello" dropping to number four. "In that context, we explored a wide range of promotional options for the new Coldplay album and ultimately decided, together with management, that Coldplay and its fans would best be served with the full album on both free and premium this Friday".

The pop star's Sorry remains at two and Sweet Lovin' by Sigala is a high new entry at three.

Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You climbed to 13, The Pogues ft Kirsty MacColl's Fairytale Of New York was at 20 and Wham's Last Christmas at 27.
