Jose Mourinho, Chelsea squad had 'palpable discord' - Michael Emanelo

Big Sam says Mourinho would make a "good" future England manager, but is convinced he will leave the country and start afresh overseas.

Chelsea sacked manager Jose Mourinho Thursday after an appalling run of results that has left the London club just one point above the relegation places.

"The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea", the statement read.

Mourinho led Chelsea to a Premier League and League Cup double last season, after returning to the club in 2013, but they are now one point above the relegation zone after nine defeats in 16 games.

His three league titles, FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in our 110-year history.

Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo discussed Jose Mourinho's departure with Chelsea TV this evening...

"While there has been huge sentiment for the individual, the fact of the matter remains that Chelsea Football Club is in trouble". The results have not been good. There obviously seems to be a palpable discord between manager and players.

Former Nigeria worldwide Emenalo, part of the Chelsea management structure since 2007 and head of the club's global and domestic scouting network, said Russian billionaire Abramovich had made a "tough decision".

"Any fans, even those who do not have any affiliation with the club, can understand that this club is in trouble and something needed to be done".

It's believed that a compromise was reached between Chelsea and Mourinho regarding a pay-off, believed to be a £250,000 per week up to a maximum of £10m, until he finds employment elsewhere.

"They did it in style, and they did it by showing commitment, and by sweat and blood, tears and blood for the club, when needed". It's very easy to make that kind of inference [about the players] but it's not one that club accepts. That's what they're supposed to do.

Mourinho said that his players had "betrayed" his work after Monday's 2-1 defeat at Leicester City - his last game in charge - and Emenalo confirmed that relations between the Portuguese and his squad had broken down.

"Something went wrong that is not connected with football but also the football project as envisaged by Abramovich when Mourinho came back that went wrong as well".

"You're not a big club if you don't have contingency plans for situations like this and we're a big club who have quality coaches embedded within the club and I think we will be okay for Saturday". We're talking about relationships, and I think he's had a shock.
