Madrassa teacher arrested for suspected links with Al Qaeda

Delhi Police have arrested a madrassa teacher for allegedly having links with the terrorist outfit al-Qaida in Bengaluru, reports said.

"We produced him in the court yesterday and he will be in police remand till January 20". Once employed in a mosque in Tilaknagar, Bengaluru, he was asked to leave after he delivered a fiery speech demeaning women.

Anzar, police said, studied at Darul Uloom, Deoband and is said to have some followers in Karnataka.

According to police sources, Anzar Shah, who was identified as a Muslim cleric in Banshankari for the last four years, had visited Makka masjid in Ilyas Nagar last month. Asif had asked Anzar to lie low and act as a sleeper cell for AQIS.

When Shah was contacted by the AQIS operatives, he reportedly reactivated himself to provide logistical support to them.

If the sources are to be believed, the Special Cell even has the details of the financial transactions, between AQIS operatives and Shah.
