Shocking incident in Russian hospital: Doctor kills patient

CCTV footage appears to show a doctor repeatedly punching a patient - who later collapsed and died.

After the CCTV footage came to light the narrative went viral.

Investigators think it was a case of "involuntary manslaughter", but have launched a criminal investigation.

The shirtless patient had earlier kicked a nurse during a procedure, according to investigators.

The doctor was sacked and his actions are classified as negligence, since there is no evidence he meant to kill the patient, the Investigative Committee said.

A second man in a black coat tries to interfere and the surgeon, who Russian media have dubbed "the boxer doctor", hauls off and beats him in a corner. He then pushes him through a doorway, and when the patient returns to the room, he punches him in the face, sending him toppling backwards onto the floor.

The doctor has been named as Ilya Zelendinov, according to the privately owned channel Ren TV. The doctor instantly drags the male patient from the examination table and asks him "Why did you touch the nurse?" before pushing him out into a separate room.

The victim was identified by relatives as 56-year-old Yevgeniy Bakhtin from the same city.
