CBS' 'Mike & Molly' will end after current season

CBS says the blue collar comedy "Mike & Molly will call it quits after its current season".

In his first TCA press tour presentation, Glenn Geller, CBS entertainment president, said CBS remains eminently poised for success despite the glut of scripted programming around the TV landscape.

"I have tremendous respect for Chuck Lorre, Al Higgins, Melissa McCarthy, and Billy Gardell, and the entire cast".

Also returning late, for an abbreviated season, is "Person of Interest".

Though the cancellation was a sure thing, no official axing came from the network until now.

The show's creators-Michelle and Robert King-have already said this will be their seventh and final season on the Sunday night drama about a high-powered lawyer and her philandering politician husband. "It is also a shortened season (13 episodes) after the announced full renewal of 22 episodes back in March by the network. It's just January, so we haven't determined if there will be another season or not".

Mike and Molly will wrap production of its final episode on February 1. There are 13 of them.

Co-star Gardell , writing "Thank you everyone who supported us". With this, "The Big Bang Theory" is more of the elder statesman than ever, with "2 Broke Girls" behind it. Who knows how much longer these two shows have? "I'll miss my 2nd family", she wrote. While Geller neither confirmed nor denied the fate of the show past season 5, he was finally able to confirm that the show will, at the very least, return temporarily.

"We wanted to do a show that was a mix of genre-pulp and highbrow politics - "The Strain" crossed with 'The West Wing, '" the Kings said in a statement when the show was given a straight-to-series order last July.

McCarthy and Gardell starred as the title pair, a couple who met at an Overeaters Anonymous group and fell in love.
