Boy, 6, kills brother, 3, with father's illegal gun

Lasalle said he heard a "pop", then saw Eian's 6-year-old brother running up the stairs.

He rushed the boy to the hospital, but doctors couldn't save him.

Michael Santiago bought a revolver to protect himself after the former gang member was tagged with the risky label of "snitch" because he testified at the murder trial of another gang member, prosecutors said Sunday at his bail hearing.

When these accidents happen, the adult gun owners (often relatives) are increasingly facing the consequences. The three-year-old who died in the tragic shooting incident has been identified as Eian Santiago. According to The Associated Press, the elder boy got hold of a gun that was in the possession of the children's father and used the weapon to fatally shoot the younger sibling. They could offer up $1,000 to free their primary caretaker, the family and the public defender said. He was arrested on child endangerment charges.

Santiago is due in bond court today.

According to police, both the parents were out while the kids were playing "cops and robbers" on Saturday.

"There has to be a few deterrent value", he said.

On Sunday, Santiago wiped back tears as DiBella recounted the child-on-child shooting, according to the Tribune. Guglielmi could not further describe the weapon other than saying it was a handgun. By 11:20 p.m., about two dozen people were waiting in the cold, including a young woman who had been wailing nearly nonstop for half an hour.

The gun rights organization also argues that laws aren't likely to reform careless gun owners and could lead to civil liberties abuses, such as arbitrary storage requirements and police searches of homes to determine compliance. Michael Santiago, 25, was at work when the shooting occurred on Saturday night at his home in the Humboldt Park neighborhood; the childrens' grandfather was at the home at the time.
