Hot Dogs Hold Mystery Meat, Human DNA

Your favorite street food may have something you had never thought of.

While any problem is certainly an offense, albeit somewhat mildly for the processed sausage, the most egregious of these might be that the researchers found many hot dogs labeled as vegetarian actually do contain a few kind of meat and that those labeled as kosher contain not only pork but other meats-such as chicken-as well. Obviously, the first thing that popped into their minds for testing was the hot dog, which the group calls the "world's original 'mystery meat.'" Pretty much as expected, the findings are super gross.

The foods research company tested 345 brands of hot dog from 75 different food brands and concluded after the research that 14.4% of hot dogs are plain problematic in a few way. More troubling, the research found even human DNA in two percent of the samples, part of which were also labeled as vegetarian.

To date, Americans consume 20 billion hot dogs every year where last year, United States $2.5 billion was spent on hot dogs and $2.74 billion on dinner sausages and more than half a billion for breakfast sausages according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.

To get the results, Clear Food used new technology to examine food at the molecular level which catches allergens and hidden additives other food tests can miss. Their aim is to make people clear and confident about what they are eating and presenting in front of their guests.

But not all the hot dog brands are lying about their product. As Eater points out, beloved NYC brand Nathan's-one of the top five largest hot dog companies in the USA-is notably absent from their list of recommended products.

Scores were given after analyzing DNA frequency and then on the basis of nutrition- content accuracy such as the quantity of carbs, fat and calories.
