OSU crash suspect faces 2nd-degree murder

Four people are dead and dozens more are injured after a auto barreled through a crowd during Oklahoma State University's homecoming parade Saturday morning. Stillwater is nowhere near as big as Oklahoma City, home of Oklahoma University, or Tulsa, a large, modern city filled with college campuses.

A 25-year-old woman accused in the deaths of four people at the Oklahoma State homecoming parade is scheduled to appear in court Monday, after witnesses said she drove her auto into spectators with such force that she sent bodies flying into the air. Thomas added that Chambers displayed evidence of "a depraved mind and indifference to human life".

Coleman called the $1 million bond unreasonable, but the state countered that the nature of the crimes means her flight risk is "huge".

"This was a well-known parade day and route, and these innocents were visible from a substantial distance", the district attorney said in the statement. She was an MBA student at the University of Central Oklahoma, her school said.

Chambers is being held on four preliminary counts of second-degree murder.

Among the injured were nine children 10 years old or younger.

Monday afternoon, a doctor began one of several visits with Chambers.

She did not enter a plea and another hearing was set for November 13.

On Sunday, Coleman said there was no indication that Chambers had been drinking before the crash.

"Miss Chambers was hospitalized and perhaps evaluated". Police are awaiting results of a blood test administered to the suspect after the crash.

"I was not satisfied at all that I was communicating with a competent individual".

Police said they suspected Chambers was intoxicated.

"All my family went to that school", Floyd Chambers said at a news conference. "We don't know what happened".

"There's a very very dark area there that's hard for her to recall", her lawyer said. She says the student wanted to be a financial analyst in the banking world and was "quite focused" on her goal. "She's one of the kindest, [most] soft-spoken people you'll ever meet".

Chambers' boyfriend, Jesse Gaylord, says nothing seemed unusual when Chambers left for work that morning. "Her behavior was not consistent with someone who was coming off a drunken stupor".

Gaylord said he'd never even seen Chambers break any traffic laws.

Coleman said he was that Chambers had previously contemplated suicide, but he does not think yesterday's event was a suicide attempt.

Ten people, including two OSU men's basketball players, were killed in a 2001 plane crash while returning from a game in Colorado. "Most of those people don't know anybody that got injured or that was in the accident, but because we're all Oklahoma State, we're all family, and we're all together to pay our respects and show that we love each other".
