B'desh to host 2016 Asia Cup

The Asia Cup was held in Dhaka in 2012 and 2014, and a meeting between the Asian boards saw it suggested that the trend continue.

This will be the third successive time that Bangladesh has been given the opportunity to host the Asia Cup.

The 2016 version of the event would additionally function T20 for the primary time.

Australia's cricketers had been due to play a two-Test series in Bangladesh this month but the tour was scrapped after official Australian warnings that militants may attack Western interests.

Earlier in the year, Asian Cricket Council's outgoing President, Syed Ashraful Haq had said that the tournament wished to remodel itself to allow greater participation and reach. For instance, in the year the World Cup will be played, the Asia Cup will revert to the 50-over format as well.

Pakistani cricket team has become the most successful team of Asia in terms of victories in all formats Test, ODIs and T20s on Monday. Hosts Bangladesh will be joined by India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka with the fifth team to be an Associate country which will be decided by the Qualifiers that will be played later in 2015.

The members also agreed upon having an emerging nations One Day tournament in alternate odd years.

The fifth team will be from from an associate country as Afghanistan, Hong Kong, UAE and Oman will battle it out in the qualifiers in the United Arab Emirates with the victor making it to the main draw.
