Media Molecule develops design-your-own 'Dreams' with 3D printing potential

You won't need to be able to make a tree, because there's thousands of trees that will have already been created, but the pervasive ability to strike off on a tangent, add things to a dream that you're exploring and simply mess around with friends should also remove the barriers and divide between what creation is and what playing is.

If you have an imagination and can use a control pad, you can make stuff in Dreams, and then bring that stuff to life as real world objects, assets in other games or in animated movies - and potentially much more. Aside from opening doors, talking to other characters and moving objects, the player's imp can also posses other creatures, effectively letting the player take control of other characters in the game.

Media Molecule continues its quest to tackle all things adorable, as well as unconventional, by offering a live demo of its upcoming creation game, Dreams. Imagine Nintendo's recent Mario Maker, but turned up to 11, and you'll be on the right track.

Every player creates a custom Imp who follows you in Dreams; this one Calcifer orange and French.

And the choice of where to go next is up to you! Players will have the chance to craft their own dreams (and presumably nightmares) using sculpting tools which sound like a logical evolution of the sandbox "built it yourself" ethos of the LBP titles. Everything is created by you, the player. While many questions still remain, we now know enough about Dreams to be incredibly excited. There are so many questions swimming around our heads about this game, full of seemingly endless possibilities, and we can't wait to see more gameplay footage - and find out how it all actually works. Looks pretty neat. There's a beta coming 2016, too.
