Google denies that Chrome OS and Android are merging

The Chrome operating system isn't going anywhere, despite last week's report from The Wall Street Journal that Chrome OS would disappear into Android, said on Monday.

The company admits that it's "been working on ways to bring together the best of both operating systems".

Hiroshi Lockheimer, senior vice president of Android and Chrome OS, wrote the tweet and published the post. The Pixel C is now shrouded in an air of secrecy, with proposed 6-weekly updates planned for the tablet, which could spell a broader attempt at improving Android's implementation on desktop like hardware.

There are still various unidentified details regarding the Android/Chrome OS blend, however security and application programs are universal conditions for any device, and the triumph of whatever Google is arousing rests upon them. Critics have argued its redundancy since its invention, yet Google pushed forward, debuting new versions and encouraging manufacturers to build new models.

This is a much different account from the Journal's speculation last week that not only would , but that Chromebook would get a new name. Instead, Lockheimer reviewed the success of the six-year-old Chrome OS and reminded readers that 30,000 new Chromebooks running the OS are activated every day in USA classrooms. Google says that "there's more to do", citing, for example, the recent addition of select Android apps to Chrome OS - but maintained that there are no plans 'to phase out Chrome OS'.
