Haney: Woods unlikely to regain form

Williams was there for 13 of Woods' 14 major wins.

Tiger Woods' former caddie Steve Williams has described his anger and frustration at being "hung out to dry" by Woods' management when the golfer's infidelities were revealed in 2009, and says he was sometimes treated as a "slave" on the course.

So for Williams to accuse the nation's most successful black athlete - who remains an inspiration to millions despite his troubles - of treating him as such was a crass and ill-advised comparison.

But this should come as no surprise from a guy whose self-importance far outweighs his self-awareness. I believe that when Williams did a few one-off work for Adam Scott in 2011 while Woods was rehabbing from surgery that was essentially quitting Woods. During that time, Woods made in excess of $70 million in official earnings on the PGA Tour, of which Williams conservatively could have been expected to be paid more than $6 million, depending on their arrangement.

So it sticks in the throat to see a man so thuggish in nature that he threw a fan's £7000 camera in a pond for taking a picture of Woods on his back swing, now playing the suffering victim. The book will be called Out of the Rough, but its release date has yet to be announced.

"He's telling about his whole career, too", Haney said, "and most of that stuff, I think, people will probably find to be a little bit boring unless you're the biggest golf nut in the world because people wanted to hear about Tiger Woods".

Woods "would flippantly toss a club in the general direction of the bag, expecting me to go over and pick it up".

About that spitting into a hole after an errant putt, well that's really more Sergio Garcia's M.O. "When he told me he couldn't, I asked why not, and he told me that if he cleared Steve's name, the media would start asking if anyone else knew, and they did, so basically he was covering their butts and letting Steve suffer".

I was adamant that a few of his behaviour on the course had to change. How could I spend so much time with him and not have an inkling this was going on?

Sorry but HIS life was miserable?

"In the back of my mind, one thought often replayed, over and over, without an answer: What did Tiger do with himself to get rid of the stress that built up in his life?"

Maybe Williams was right after all in his book. He is indeed a slave - but only to his own inflated ego.
