Poland Closes Its Doors to Refugees After Paris Terrorist Attacks

Poland will not take in refugees under a hotly contested EU programme to distribute them among member states because of the Paris attacks, the country's incoming European affairs minister said today. "Those who organised, who perpetrated the attacks are the very same people who the refugees are fleeing and not the opposite".

"I would invite those in Europe who try to change the migration agenda we have adopted - I would like to remind them to be serious about this and not to give in to these base reactions that I do not like..."

French officials tell CNN at least one of the terrorists responsible for Friday's attack on civilians entered the European Union hidden in a tide of Syrian refugees.

He later told reporters that Poland will accept refugees only "if we have guarantees of security".

He said such attacks will "only result (in) a new wave of refugees. And we have a few signals that in fact it's started".

The man declared himself as Ahmad al Mohammad from Syria.

USA president Barack Obama and Russian president Vladimir Putin met at the sidelines of the summit, the first time the two leaders have met since Russia commenced aerial bombardment in Syria on September 30th.

"They are the real enemy of the free world, not the moderate Syrian opposition", he said, adding that cooperation between Washington and Moscow was "crucial".

Croatian police say he was checked at a refugee centre on October 8.

Experts cautioned jumping to conclusions, noting that fake Syrian passports are not hard to come by for the right price.

Konrad Szymanski, who will take the office on Monday as part of the country's new conservative government, said his cabinet didn't agree with their predecessors' commitment to take a share in the refugee burden.

She said: "Terrorism is so well organised that it doesn't have to risk the arduous refugee routes, and the sometimes life-threatening crossings at sea".
