Toddler burned alive in oven

Shortly after 12 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters arrived to the Angel Ridge Apartments on Sterlingshire Street near Mesa Drive where they found the lifeless body of 19-month-old J'Zrya Thompson next to a stove.

Gina Dennis, J'zyra's grandmother, told KHOU-TV she's still trying to figure out why the toddler and her three older siblings, ages three, three and five, were left at home without adult supervision overnight. "This is unexplainable, so, I have no words".

"It appears to be accidental", said Houston Police Department Officer Rhonda Pemberton. Police found the child dead at the scene. Reporter: AS THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES, THIS GRANDMOTHER MOURNS THE LOSS OF THE LITTLE GIRL SHE NICKNAMED LITTLE MAMA.

A juvenile court judge ordered the two other children and another one of their siblings, aged 3, 3, and 5, into foster homes Wednesday in a custody hearing a day after J'zyra Thomspon died, Texas Child Protective Services spokeswoman Estella Olguin told the Daily News.

Investigators say the mother and her boyfriend left the child alone in the home with two other children. Following the incident, neighbors admitted they often saw the kids alone at home. Both the mother and the boyfriend were taken in for questioning, but no charges were immediately filed.

"She was a sweet baby", Dennis said while holding back tears. According to CPS, there have been previous reports made concerning the mother.

It's unknown how the child got in the oven.
