Mets Interested in Zobrist

ALSO: Zobrist too expensive for Mets?

The Mets would love to have free agent utility-man Ben Zobrist, who helped the Royals beat them in the World Series. Zobrist is the older of the two players at 34 with Murphy being 30. The Post reports that the team has "formally reached out" to Zobrist's agent and that the Mets will "figure to make a strong push for" Zobrist to take over at second base.

If Daniel Murphy is not returning to play second base for the NY Mets next season, perhaps his World Series counterpart could be in play.

While nothing is official until the contracts are signed, it seems likely that Yoenis Cespedes and Daniel Murphy will be playing for a team not named the NY Mets for 2016 and beyond.

Through he might be better suited to play a corner outfield spot, there is belief in the organization that he could handle centerfield duties.

There appears to be plenty of interest in Zobrist, however, and he might command a four-year deal worth over $60 million. He's likely to get $10 million-plus on a five-year deal, Fox Sports reported. Never much of a power hitter, he hit new peaks of accuracy and consistency with his bat this season for the Brewers, hitting.328/.369/.517/.886 in 100 games before a trade sent him to the Orioles, where things kind of crashed for him, hitting just. According to Mark Carig at Newsday, the Mets have shown interest in Parra and he could be an option to use in a platoon with Juan Lagares. That means the teams that sign these players won't have to surrender a draft pick.
