Ohio State Upset By MI State, UConn Shocks Houston

The Huskies, who began the game with all five starters averaging in double digits, showcased their bench depth in the opening half as they scored 19 points from reserves led by six points from Omar Calhoun and four each from Adams and Kentan Facey.

Houston coach Tom Herman anxious that his team was stepping into what he saw as a quintessential trap game against UConn.

The Houston Cougars at 10-0 and No. 13 in the nation, were looking to bust into a big bowl game as non-Power 5 conference.

UConn's record improves to 6-5 on the season as the Huskies gain bowl eligibility for the first time since the 2010 season. The Cougars still have a shot at the American Athletic Conference title if they can win against a tough Navy team next week to determine the AAC West.

Ward played a handful of snaps in the fourth quarter and came in for the final time after Postma was injured during Houston's final drive.

The Huskies held the previously unbeaten Cougars to 318 yards of offense, nearly 200 below their season average. We'll remember this one for a long time, I think.

The first half was riddled with mistakes and penalties on both sides, including two turnovers from the UH offense, one of which led to a field goal for UConn.

UH struck back in the blink of an eye, as junior corner Brandon Wilson took the ensuing kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown, his second return score of the year.

Houston got the ball back with less than 2 minutes left.

The game got off to a great start for the Huskies, with a 42-yard run up the middle by Arkeel Newsome on the first play from scrimmage leading the charge for a UConn touchdown. But Ward, who sprained his ankle last week against Memphis, came on in relief when Postma was hurt in the fourth quarter. Ward was forced into the game when Postma went down after completing a third-down pass. Ward found Demarcus Ayers for 18 yards, but Summers made a nice play to intercept his next pass. The leader of the pack is Kenneth Farrow, who has 903 yards on 168 carries for 12 touchdowns.

But the pressure on Saturday won't be on the Huskies, who won just two games a year ago and already have exceeded a lot of expectations this season.
