Baker Mayfield Progressing Through OU's Concussion Protocol

Mayfield rose on Heisman Trophy watch lists after leading the Sooners to victory at Baylor the previous week. He is in the top-five in the nation in passing efficiency and passing touchdowns and in the top-10 in yards per completion.

Early in the second quarter, Mayfield was targeted by TCU linebacker, Ty Summers, on a helmet-to-helmet hit which would cause Mayfield to sit out the second half. "That'll all be up to our doctors and trainers".UP: Aaron Green - Green was soooo good, especially in the second half, as he rang up a big run after big run, showcasing speed, power, and an arsenal of moves. Shell ran for touchdowns from eight and 26 yards out in the first quarter, and Skyler Howard ran for a nine-yard touchdown and threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Cody Clay. Mayfield stayed in the game, but admitted to trainers he had a headache at halftime.

Parker batted down Bram Kohlhausen's pass, swatting away the No. 18 Horned Frogs' hopes - and propping up the Sooners' (No. 7 in the College Football Playoff rankings) uneasy dreams. "Regarding the concussion protocol, they followed everything when it happened". He said training staff checked on Mayfield multiple times throughout the second quarter and didn't see any evidence that Mayfield wasn't being honest with trainers.

Offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley said he changed the offensive gameplan when Mayfield was out and that's what stunted the offense.

It is also worth noting, though, that Knight is a very different type of quarterback than Mayfield. He led the Sooners to a Sugar Bowl win after the 2013 season and was the starter last season.

Mayfield says he's progressing perfectly, and Shepard said the quarterback looked smooth in Monday's practice.

"Our rule has always been to go get the win on the road", Patterson said. Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said.

The Sooners still seemed to be in control most of the way with a defense that kept the Horned Frogs contained.

The junior quarterback's status for OU's season finale at Oklahoma State remains questionable. His long-term health is considerably more important, though, than any football game, even one with everything on the line like will be the case in Stillwater this weekend.
