Russia Launches More Cruise Missiles From Caspian To Syria

The decision was made to "protect passengers and because of the crossing of cruise missiles and bombers from the northern part of Iraq to Syria, launched from the Caspian Sea and Iran and Iraq", it said.

The Defense Ministry went on to say that Russian armed forces are carrying out the campaign as vengeance for the vicious attacks in Paris and the bombing of the Russian plane over the Sinai, which have since been claimed by ISIS.

The order came as Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the raids over the past four days, either through Russian navy's long-range attacks or air strikes by the Russian air force, have inflicted heavy damage and fatalities on the militants in Syria.

Russian Federation is coordinating its air strikes with Damascus, unlike the US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State group, which Assad and his government criticise as ineffectual.

While doubts remain about whether the US would work with Russia, there have been some tentative signs of a shift in Washington, with President Obama praising Russian leader Vladimir Putin as a "constructive partner" in diplomatic efforts to end the Syrian war.

In the interview with China's Phoenix television, Assad said the situation in Syria had "improved in a very good way" since Russian Federation began air strikes on September 30, AFP reported.

The Russian aviation grouping comprises more than 50 aircraft and helicopters, including the Sukhoi Su-34 and Su-24M bombers, Su-25 attack aircraft, Su-30SM fighters and Mil Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility. The Islamic State group said it had bombed the Russian jet in Egypt in retaliation for the bombing raids.

President Obama, who is expected to visit Paris next month for a global climate convention, also said the world should not be cowed down with fear of the caliphate.

The resolution, which does not provide a legal basis for military action, urges those countries which can to "take all necessary measures, in compliance with worldwide law... on the territory under the control of ISIL (Daesh)... in Syria and Iraq".
