Spiked baseball bats found around San Francisco; police seek help

Police in San Francisco are investigating the appearance of spiked baseball bats tied up with chains to poles across the city. By Friday afternoon, SFPD spokesperson Sergeant Michael Andraychak says that "27 incidents have been reported from various locations in San Francisco", with the most recent one "in the Fishermen's' Wharf area".

Bats were previously discovered throughout Thursday, beginning in the morning, with another found around 4:45 p.m.at 19th Avenue and Buckingham Way, Andraychak said.

He said that the bats would be considered as prohibited deadly weapons because they had been altered with spikes and screws. No one seems to know exactly what (if anything) to make of it. SF resident Gerrie Burke found one of the bats, with bolts protruding from it, at Mission and Rolph Streets, in the Outer Mission.

"And then I thought maybe they are trying to freak people out". The squad responded immediately and X-rayed the bat, finding out later that it was clear of explosives. "It's also San Francisco".

Investigators are stumped as to why baseball bats embedded with nails are appearing around a city.
