Google launches crisis response page for flood-hit Chennai

Facebook has activated its after heavy rainfalls caused massive flooding in the state of Tamil Nadu, forcing thousands out of their homes and bringing the city to a standstill. So, if you are in Chennai, you can let your family and friends know that you are safe by using the Facebook's .

Facebook's Safety Check tool asks users if they are "in the affected area" and would like to notify their friends of their safety.

Chennai received 34.5cm rain in the past 24 hours.

Google has also posted a link on its homepage called "Resources for the Chennai floods", which provides details about relief camps and updates people about the situation in the city.

Facebook has activated its Safety Check tool for those affected by the torrential flooding around the Indian city of Chennai.

Google's for the Chennai floods can be accessed here. The website sends users in the affected area a note asking them if they're safe. The tool also determines the last location they've shared or the city where they are using the Internet. But, Facebook says the Safety Check tool will make it easier.

The social network had in the past been criticised for being selective in activating Safety Check, with outrage being expressed after it unusually activated the feature following the Paris terrorist attacks last month. It is a good initiative by the company so that one could get help from emergency sources and people who are affected by the devastating floods will be aware of relief centres.
