PlayStation 4 remote play for PC coming Wednesday, but not from Sony

Sony has sold 30.2 million units of its PlayStation 4 (PS4) games console worldwide over the last two years, the Japanese electronics giant said on Wednesday, suggesting it is dominating in the console wars.

PS4 Remote Play is now officially supported on Vita, select smartphones and the , but an unofficial app went on sale this week showing its perfectly possible on PC, too.

Of course, this isn't great news for the independent developer who hoped to eventually work full-time on the app, but it is great news for fans.

The release of this unofficial app ostensibly prompted inquiries of Yoshida and, in turn, his response and low-key reveal of official PC/Mac support for Remote Play. Now, unless Sony screws it up somehow, Twisted should start looking for a different project to work on.

Sony has plans to bring PlayStation Remote Play functionality to PCs, following rival Microsoft's introduction of Xbox One game streaming in Windows 10.

The app launched by Twisted is dubbed Remote Play PC; and it is priced at 6.50 GBP (approximately $10).

Yoshida has not made any statement about the availability of the app. However, it would be released in the coming future as the company has already started its development. The sudden surge of sales could be attributed to the fact that the Japanese electronics giant slashed the price of the PlayStation 4 in the United States, Australia, Europe and in Japan just a few weeks ago.

The PlayStation 4 console has sold over 30.2 million units worldwide as of November 22, according to Sony Computer Entertainment.

However, if Sony decides to make this available to a wider array of users, I believe that these issues will be solved somehow, especially if Sony will allow mouse-and-keyboard controls to get mapped.
