Stan Kroenke: STL Aldermen agree to finance new stadium

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the extra contribution was suggested to the St. Louis stadium task force by one of the six members of the league's Committee on Los Angeles Opportunities.

The St. Louis Rams might have played their final game at the Edward Jones Dome Thursday night, but the city is doing its best to keep the team around. The NFL usually pours $200 million into a new stadium.

National Football League spokesman Brian McCarthy declined to comment on the letter.

At this point the Board wants to refrain from being forced to make any dyer changes due to the fact that the deadline is literally two weeks away and any imminent changes would take a vast amount of time to plan out and implement. The additional $100 million became a point of contention last week, when league executive Eric Grubman went to "The Bernie Miklasz Show" on 101 ESPN Radio in St. Louis and said that St. Louis' plan would not be attractive to the Rams.

The league has set a December 30 deadline for the stadium plan to be finalized.

The Rams, San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders have all expressed their desire to relocate to the Los Angeles area, with the Chargers and Raiders joining forces on a plan to move to Carson and the Rams to Inglewood.

In nearby Carson, the city is hoping both the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers will move from their current homes.

The state task force is "seeking to" boost rent paid by the football team from $700,000 a year to $1.5 million, which would at least be something if it happens, but it doesn't appear to be guaranteed in this bill. We recognize that our proposal will require extensive review before it is considered for approval by the NFL. Their final two games are on the road.

Last month, Republican Missouri House Speaker Todd Richardson sent Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon a list of 120 House members opposed to funding the stadium. Therefore, one problem is that there's no guarantee the city would have a way to get the other $100 million to finance the proposed new stadium. The Raiders and Chargers also are interested in making the move.

In the task force's proposal, part of the funding for the new stadium would come from $250 million from the team's owner.
