BlackBerry CEO: Priv sales have been 'quite positive' so far

At its recent quarterly , the firm said its latest Priv will be sold in 31 countries by February.

The Canadian company reported its quarterly results at the end of the last week. After accounting for restructuring costs and other one-time events, this loss goes down to $15 million. Despite Chen's assertion yesterday that the hardware division would attain profitability in the next quarter or two, he told The Verge back in October that the break even number was around five million devices annually. Overall, GAAP revenue totaled $548 million, beating Wall Street forecasts of $489 million, according to Reuters. He also indicated that BlackBerry's QNX technology works with Apple Car strategy as well as with Google.

The Bloomberg interviewer also asked about potential BlackBerry partnerships with the big players of the tech business. There have already been speculations about what the next BlackBerryAndroid phone might look like, with leaks, or wishful thinking, hinting at a more traditional BlackBerry design, with a QWERTY keyboard instead of a slider. Thus far, the sales of the handset have reflected a positive growth for the company; with latest quarterly data revealing that the Priv quarterly sales figures have touched 700,000 units.

Going forward, software will continue to be a key focus area for the company as it continues to transform.

BlackBerry has branded themselves as a more software-oriented business for quite some time now and 2015 is the first year, which investors can take as tangible evidence that the company's transformation is actually working. The Priv retails at $699 in the USA and the average price of devices sold previous year in the same time period was $240.

The next Android handset launched by BlackBerry should provide the same level of privacy and security as the PRIV, or else it might not be so popular among consumers.

Most readers will have heard of the BlackBerry Priv, the company's first Android smartphone that released in November this year. The company has lost around $6 billion over the last 2.5 years.
