'Game Of Thrones' Author Says Latest Instalment Delayed

"The outpouring of support in response to my post on The Winds of Winter has been astonishing", he wrote.

"Chapters still to write, of course ... but also rewriting". The deadlines just stress me out....It will be done when it's done.

Game of Thrones series author George RR Martin has missed the deadline that would have allowed the sixth novel in his fantasy series to be published before the next TV series starts. He does a lot of rewriting after his initial draft is done.

However, a busy year meant he would be unable to meet the deadline, which deeply depressed him.

"Inevitably, there will be certain plot twists and reveals in season six of Game of Thrones that have not yet happened in the books".

"[George R. R.] Martin mentioned that after the fifth series of Game of Thrones aired he and his editors had several meetings with the HBO producers in early 2015 to discuss how "The Winds of Winter" could be out before the next season", the report said. "No one else is to blame".

The author has also stated that he is still working on "The Winds of Winter" at the best pace he can go at, citing that there are "good days" and "bad days" and that despite his age, his writing speed is still relatively the same as it was when he was in his youth.

His publishers, he says, will need about three months to publish the book once he delivers a manuscript. It's on me. I tried, and I am still trying... "But no, I can't tell you when it will be done, or when it will be published". "I'm not going to set another deadline for myself to trip over", he writes. Martin takes full responsibility of the delay, absolving his editors and publishers, saying "I won't make excuses".

Care to break the hearts of Game of Thrones fans everywhere? "This year, for some things, the reverse will be true", he surmised. "The show moved faster than I anticipated and I moved more slowly".

Martin did not give a specific time frame for when it will be finished, saying "Sorry boys and girls, still writing".
