What to Watch on Monday, Day 8 at the Australian Open

Milos Raonic has dedicated his third-round victory at the Australian Open to victims of a shooting in Canada which left four people dead and at least two injured.

Melbourne Park was rocked by corruption allegations on its opening day, and a week later, integrity fears returned as a former Australian professional player pleaded guilty to match-fixing at a Sydney court.

There was clearly a objective in Wawrinka's stride now and with the crowd in full throttle we were finally witnessing the contest that had been hotly anticipated pre-match. There is a lot more to Raonic.

The Canadian defeated Roger Federer in straight sets in the Brisbane final two weeks ago, and has now stormed to the fourth round of Australian Open 2016.

"What it always comes down to for me is trying to play in your rhythm, dictate and control the centre of the court - I felt like I was able to carry that through", Raonic said after taking out the only player to defeat five-time champion Novak Djokovic in Melbourne since 2010.

But Raonic has never played this well.

Lopez knocked Isner out of the Australian Open in a five-set, third-round match at Hisense Arena in 2012.

The time for Raonic to step up is now. He has served 46 games, and won 45.

"It's tough to recover, to rest, and in the same time play grand slam". Twenty-nine of Raonic's winners came on volleys. He has played 546 points and hit 151 winners. But only two remain in the singles draw - No. 10 John Isner and No. 31 Steve Johnson.

It's not that Raonic has a particular weakness that Wawrinka can exploit. I have to make him feel uncomfortable. Zhang, 0-for-14 in grand slam matches prior to Melbourne, beat the injured 2015 semifinalist Madison Keys 3-6 6-3 6-3.

Raonic dominated in the first two sets, but then Wawrinka went on a roll. The problem is Wawrinka has struggled converting break points at this year's Australian Open.

A shaky service game from Wawrinka allowed Raonic to open a 4-2 lead in the decider and he sealed victory at the net. This year, he is well over double that at 42 - in the same amount of sets. This year he has only 28. "I was finishing the points".

Wawrinka's game is much more balanced, with power to burn off both the forehand and backhand wings. The Spaniard was terrific at the net and returning serve, winning 22-of-24 net points in the match and 44 percent of his return points.

The 23rd seed, Monfils won 15 of 16 points approaches, but it's the shot he didn't capitalize on that created the bulk of the buzz.

Talk about a dream run to the quarterfinals. The Canadian is in the conversation because of his serve, forehand, and overall improved baseline game.

His ranking dropped considerably and unlike the year before, Raonic failed to qualify for the year-end championships. Unfortunately, he is running into an opponent who is also white-hot, just halfway through the tournament. That's all that's going to be the difference between advancing to the fourth round for one player, and an early flight home for the other.
