Police say Amonderez Green shot himself after officer confrontation near Ferguson

"Ballistic evidence of the bullet recovered during the autopsy confirmed the round had been fired from a. 38 caliber revolver", the statement said.

Amonderez Green of Florissant, Missouri died early Thursday, 14 hours after a confrontation with a Normandy police officer.

Police said Green's family called them Wednesday afternoon around 2:30 p.m., saying he refuse to communicate with family.

An autopsy report has confirmed that an 18-year-old black man who died after a confrontation with police in the St. Louis suburb of Normandy was killed by what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face.

Green's father, Jermell Simpson, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he doesn't believe the police account that his son shot himself, calling that "a total lie". They have not said if they had matched the bullet that killed Green to his gun. A few said he was shot by officers.

Police lost sight of Green for a brief period of time and that is when they heard another gunshot ring out.

Police initially tried to use a Taser against him.

Schellman said in the release that the investigation is still active and that police are seeking information and witnesses in the case. The suspect pulled a gun and began shooting at officers.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The medical examiner's autopsy concluded that Amonderez Green died after a single gunshot wound.

Three homes that were behind the officers who chased Green were hit by gunfire, with a bullet from one of those residences proven by lab testing to be fired from Green's gun, Schellman said.

Brown's death helped fuel the national "Black Lives Matter" movement rebuking police treatment of minorities.
