Paris attacks may lead to United States military anti-IS escalation

The recent attacks in Paris form part of this modus operandi. My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones.

Again, two hours later, about Paris (with his personal "O'M"). Praying for the country and its people.

Martin O'Malley: The former Maryland governor also seemed to be laying the groundwork for a debate point with his own about the Texas abortion case.

USA and European authorities the Paris assault bore the hallmarks of complex attacks conducted by al-Qaeda, or of the Mumbai plot in 2008, when 10 Islamic militants carried out a series of 12 shootings and bombings in the Indian city, lasting four days and killing 164 people.

The White House has said there may be an informal meeting between the pair, whose icy body language at previous encounters has grabbed as many headlines as their comments.

Republican candidates took a more hawkish approach, staking out policy positions on combating terrorists overseas in addition to offering their condolences. John McCain, said Obama might opt for at least two changes in Iraq that he has resisted thus far: embedding USA military advisers in Iraqi army units closer to the front lines, and deploying forward air controllers on the battlefield to improve the effectiveness of United States airstrikes. He is just so bad!

So far, however, the United States has refrained from direct bombardment of known Islamic State headquarters buildings in its self-proclaimed capital of Raqqa, Syria.

"It was just reported, one [attacker was] from Syria", Trump said. They'll go with more of that I think. Nobody had guns but the bad guys. This is not Islam, they are not Islam and they don't know God, never, believe me.

"Boots on the ground would probably be important, because throughout that whole Middle East region, we have been calling for a coalition of people who have a vested interest", Carson said. "You can not lead from behind".

The former Hewlett-Packard CEO also weighed in on Syrian refugees, saying she was "angry that President Obama unilaterally decides that we will accept in this nation a 100,000 Syrian refugees while his administration admits we can not determine their ties to terrorism".

But none of those statements suggested that the top 2016 candidates yet have a comprehensive strategy to resolve the crisis or are ready to mobilize USA public opinion to a more intense campaign against the terror group.

"Do you know whose passport was found in France this morning?" Santorum asked the crowd Saturday. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz called for border security and the use of "overwhelming airpower" in Syria. "I was right, and the events in Paris affirm that", Huckabee said in a statement.

Kerry met in Vienna on Saturday with diplomats from Europe and the Middle East, seeking progress on establishing a cease-fire and resolving differences about the future of Assad's government. We would "jump" by airplane or by ship but we are coming this way because we are not like them. "We are at war".

"I don't think they're gaining strength", the president told Stephanopoulos in an interview at the White House Thursday. For every attack thwarted, or aborted by the terrorists, there are at least another five in the pipeline.

Jeb Bush: Wants to bolster counterintelligence, not weaken it. He intimated in an interview on conservative talk radio with Hugh Hewitt that under Obama, the US has "diminished our capabilities at the wrong time". "This is an organized effort to destroy Western civilization".

Another Florida Republican, Sen.

The attacks by a roving band of assassins for which ISIS has claimed responsibility represent a deadly new escalation in the war on terror and raise the bar for all the leading presidential candidates - none of whom has yet offered a cohesive, in-depth answer to the swift and deadly expansion of the group's global terrorism ambitions. "We can not let those who seek to disrupt our way of life succeed".

Instead, they wage war at home.

Obama, only last month, agreed to send US special operations forces to Syria to coordinate with opposition fighters on the ground - something he had ruled out previously. "If they weren't, they would have been resolved a long time ago".

The next day, speaking at the Sunshine Summit, Kasich called for timely action in the wake of the attacks in France. We stand prepared and ready to provide whatever assistance that the government and the people of France need to respond.
