UFC 193 results recap: What's next fight for Joanna Jedrzejczyk?

Polish UFC powerhouse, Joanna Jedrzejczyk (11-0), completely dominated challenger Valerie Letourneau on November 14 with supreme skills in a massive five-round battle with a unanimous decision, according to ESPN.

>It was far from an easy victory, but Joanna Jedrzejczyk defended her UFC Women's Strawweight Championship against Valerie Letourneau on Saturday night at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia.

UFC 193 was meant to be a springboard for Jedrzejczyk, catapulting her into superstardom alongside the venerable Rousey, but mixed martial arts (MMA) rarely goes by the books. "[It's] very exciting", she said. But Joanna wasn't really phased by anything that happened during the fight, and you know, neither was Valerie! Unless Letourneau finds the right moment to capitalise, Jedrzejczyk would take this match.

In any case, on a night of showcase fights that didn't work out as planned for anyone, Jedrzejczyk had little chance to steal the spotlight.

The native of Poland ascended to the top of the division in March, when she won the title from Carla Esparza, then cemented her standing with a blistering performance against Jessica Penne in Berlin three months later. Using her size and strength to bully Jedrzejczyk around the cage, Letourneau kept the first two rounds close, with no more than a few isolated strikes getting through to do real damage.

The Croatian announced his retirement on his page Monday, saying he was unable to fully recover from an injured shoulder in time for his fight with Hamilton, and had decided his best course of action was to leave fighting behind.

From there, Jedrzejczyk would face Claudia Gadelha in the FS1 prelims headlining fight at UFC Fight Night Phoenix.

UFC 193 is a landmark event for various reasons, but most importantly, four women will headline the PPV, selling out a stadium which will see a turnout of 63,000 fans come Sunday.

Letourneau, 32, was visibly emotional following her defeat. "That's all", she said, adding she feels she has been embraced quickly by fans and pundits because she tries to just be herself. "She did exactly what I thought she was going to do". "I must go to the hospital, but we will see. I will have my daughter, my family and my country watching me in the fight, so I will just focus on giving everything".

"She's got nothing to lose since she's such a big underdog". I love to compete and it's all about the sport. "In the past I've been in gyms where there was not even a locker room for girls", she said.

However, when I awoke on Sunday morning to the news of one of the biggest upsets in UFC history I just knew that I had to give this a look-see, and I'm more than glad that I did. "This is how I feel and that's what makes me feel stronger and unstoppable".
