A Few Clips from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

While that's exciting, Lawrence said that any new "Hunger Games" film would have to focus on different characters, since "with the end of this story, we've reached the end of Katniss's story".

The Julia Roberts thriller "The Secret in Their Eyes", a remake of the Oscar-winning Argentinian film, also debuted wide this weekend to $6.6 million from 2,392 locations - slightly under expectations. It opened up to $55 million in its first day and $121.9 million in its first weekend, which was the same weekend previous year.

"We're in the home stretch", Dergarabedian said. The Lionsgate release started strong in Thursday night previews, generating $16 million.

The weakness of the new films allowed holdovers "Spectre" and "The Peanuts Movie" to pad their box office results.

Midday reports on Friday said that the film was looking at a $47 - $49 million haul, which could put it on par with a $104 - $110 million weekend. Box office is up 4.2 percent from last year, but 2013 is the year to beat - and this year is tracking less than 1 percent ahead of that.

That's something "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" does remarkably well, tying together the plot threads, emotional arcs and thematic elements of the three movies that came before with a deft hand.

About 70% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a positive rating.

"We came in a little lower than we would have liked, but we're all in agreement that moving the film out of October to November and Thanksgiving was the smart choice". "We felt like this was a great launch as we go into Thanksgiving weekend, where things are going to expand dramatically".

There is no language in the film and nothing more than a kiss or two from a sexuality stand point.

While the movie has a lot of fantasy elements sprinkled throughout, the constant theme of a totalitarian government oppressing its people is something that many viewers will connect with.

Legend has prospered in the United Kingdom and Ireland with more than $28 million in ticket sales there.

The bow ranks as the year's fifth biggest opening, but it falls short of tracking that projected the picture would top $120 million in its initial weekend in theaters.
